Here's a round-up of Public Campaign and Public Campaign Action Fund's work for the week of Aug 1-Aug 5, 2011.

• The Cayman Islands of political fundraising? Public Campaign Action Fund (PCAF) sent a letter to the Delaware Attorney General yesterday urging him to investigate a mystery company that appears to have been set up for the sole purpose of making a $1 million donation to a Mitt Romney-aligned super PAC, Restore Our Future. Immediately following the donation, the company dissolved. Hmmm...The story was picked up here, here, and here.

• "12 really large checks." That's how a lobbyist described how he was preparing for the newly created 12-member deficit committee. With that in mind, on Thursday, Public Campaign, along with dozens of other groups, issued an open letter to Congress calling for the members of the "Super Congress" to cease all fundraising for the duration of the committee's work and give full transparency on meetings with lobbyists, etc. In addition to the open letter, there's also a petition for people to sign asking their members of Congress to urge the members of the Super Congress to adhere to the demands outlined in the open letter.

• Closing corporate tax loopholes? Nah. What's that you say? Big Oil made huge profits again and we're still giving them billions in taxpayer subsidies? Maybe we should address that to help reign in the deficit. Nope. Not as long as they keep filling up the ol' campaign coffers of members of Congress. PCAF's David Donnelly and Oil Change International's Steve Kretzmann penned an op-ed in The Hill calling for ending Big Oil taxpayer subsidies as a means to address the national deficit.

• Attention FAA workers and airline passengers: Your jobs, and possibly your safety, will be delayed due to heavy lobbying and campaign cash. PCAF crunched some numbers and offered this take on how Delta Airlines used its team of lobbyists and a payload of campaign contributions to influence the FAA debate.

• How do you possibly make the job of big money special interests and their lobbyists easier (and cheaper)? Simple. Shrink the number of members of Congress they need to influence from 535 to 12. Earlier in the week, PCAF made this statement on the creation of the so-called "Super Congress" that came as the result of the debt ceiling deal. 

• That Taylor Swift sure has a diverse audience. The mass of screaming teens were joined at her Washington, D.C. concert for the second year in a row by members of Congress and their big money backers for a slew of fundraisers. Their daughters must be really jealous. 

• "But Mr. President, think of the profits. My goodness, the profits!" Last Thursday (prior to the debt deal), a handful of Senators sent President Obama a letter urging him to NOT include Big Oil Taxpayer subsidies in the debt ceiling negotiations. PCAF did some research and found out why.
