Hensarling Fundraises Off Government Contractors

Submitted by Adam Smith on Thu, 06/02/2011 - 18:38

According to Sunlight Foundation’s PoliticalPartyTime.org, House Republican Conference Chair Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas) was scheduled to attend a breakfast fundraiser this morning hosted by the political action committee for Fluor, a government contractor.

Fluor Corporation received nearly $1.3 billion in government contracts in fiscal year 2008, according to FedSpending.org.

Last week, Rep. Hensarling voted in favor of an amendment offered by Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.) that would essentially block a draft plan by the White House to require government contractors to disclose their political spending as part of the federal procurement process.

Opponents of the draft executive order claim that contractor transparency would inject politics into the procurement process. I wonder if Hensarling discussed his concern about the influence of money in our political process with the government contractor lobbyists handing him money this morning.
