Scott Tipton Ad Validation
Hear that? That’s the sound of influence…
Big Oil’s campaign cash flowing to politicians.
In the 2012 election cycle, oil and gas interests have donated at least $7.8 million to House and Senate incumbents, according to the Center for Responsive Politics (CRP).
Many say we need spending cuts in Washington…
But when you connect the drops, you’ll find they vote to give billions of our tax dollars to Big Oil—subsidies Coloradans oppose.
According to a poll released last August by the Checks & Balances Project, “Coloradans strongly favor ending taxpayer subsidies for oil companies. Seventy-two percent of Coloradans say ending oil company subsidies and transferring them to companies that are developing wind and solar power would be an effective strategy for the nation.”
Take Scott Tipton. His biggest campaign donors? They’re from Big Oil.
Scott Tipton has received at least $103,000 from oil and gas interests during his time in Congress through the first three quarters of 2011, according to CRP. According to Public Campaign analysis of FEC and CRP data, that includes at least $64, 425 in 2011.
Now oil subsidies are back on the agenda. How will Tipton vote?
President Obama has made ending oil subsidies a part of his Fiscal Year 2012 budget. In the transportation bill moving through the House, Republican leadership has tried to partially pay for it through selling additional oil leases on public lands, while others have proposed paying for it by eliminating oil subsidies.
Call him. Tell him to put Colorado’s interests before Big Oil’s.
